Social Studies Corrections

Ok all...hope today's return of the Social Studies test didn't frighten too many people...now we have a gauge to work from as far as the rest of the Social Studies goes.

As for corrections - let's remember:

-Due by 8:50 tomorrow.
-All missed questions written out in full
-Correct Answer written out in full
-Written on a separate sheet of paper
-Write what page in the textbook you found your answer on
-Hand in with original test (signed by a parent if under a 65).

Thats it!  Sounds like an easy way to earn back half your missed points, doesnt it?  If you have any questions, please post here or email me.

Good luck!

Remember - Social Studies Test on Monday!!

Geez, it's Friday...and he's still bothering us about that Social Studies test???  Yes I am! :-)

Anyway, hope you spend some time studying over the weekend....be sure to study your vocabulary, your SQ3R notes, and of course, your Chapter 1 review sheet.  If you forgot it, I linked to it below.

Have a great weekend...see you Monday!  (We'll finish our Cave Art projects too...)

Review Sheet

Does it matter to you where your food comes from?

As I showed you all in class, chicken nuggets come from some, well, "different" parts of the chicken.  Now, it might not be the best parts of the chicken, but its IS approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), meaning it is perfectly fine to eat.
So, once again, here is Jamie Oliver, in his award-winning documentary, "Food Revolution".  Enjoy...?

This Week in Rap....

Enjoy!

Why I Read.....(Updated!)

Earlier in class, I showed you a brief video called "Why I read".  Personally, I found it to be an awesome video!   It showed everyday people being interviewed on why they read...and the reasons given were pletiful.  Some read for pleasure, to be awoken, to immerse themselves in a fantasy world....whatever the reason is fine!

Anyway, in my explorations, this video was just the first in a series...isnt that great?  It is sort of like when you read a good book, and then find out there are three more parts!!!

Anyway, enjoy...and as always, let me know what you think!

Part I - "Why I Read"

Part II - "If You Could Be Any Literary Character, Who Would You Be??"

Part III - "What Book Have You Recommended Most?"

Part IV - "Who is Your Favorite Author?"

Part V - "What Literary Characters Do You Love or Love to Hate?"

Enjoy!!

This Week in Rap

Because I KNOW you all enjoyed the summer current events rap, right?  (Right???)  :-)

Well, anyway...to start your Monday off...here's the same musically-talented folks, presenting the week's current events.  Enjoy!

Why Do You Read?

As I left school today, I couldn't help think about Monday, and how excited I am to return to a class as passionate about reading as all of you are!  The amount of reading that has taken place in our classroom has been amazing...truly amazing.  But, have you ever thought about WHY do you read?  What do you get out of it?

In a few years, you will be out of school...will you still read then?  I certainly hope so...I hope you blossom into readers for the rest of your life.  Anyway, take a look at the video below...and maybe post a comment...WHY DO YOU READ???

The Outstanding Chorus of PS 22, NYC

So, towards the end of class I was showing you some of the chorus of Public School 22 in Staten Island.  Well, first of all...I think we can all agree how amazingly talented these students are.  Secondly, (and this is from my perspective), what an amazing teacher...obvious dedication!

I always talk about being inspired by something and running with it, letting it guide your lives.  Well, it is obvious that the students have the inspiration!  Teachers can lead students so far, but it is amazing what people can do when they are inspired!  And, like we said, the students are singing their songs...and look what happened!

Anyway, feel free to check them out here...and take a look at some of their appearances...Oprah, Today Show, and live performances with Beyonce, Tori Amos, etc.  Unreal!

Hey all...hope you're having a good night!  Im home, watching Jeopardy (one of my guilty pleasures) and found this video.  It's a current events montage of events from the summer..pretty cool, if I say so myself.  Enjoy!

(Oh, and thanks for all the nice words!  Keep it up...and good to hear from all my students, past and present!)

SQ3R notes

In case you forgot your sheet at school, or just want a reminder...

sq3r

OK, 4 days in...

Good evening everyone!  Hopefully we are all finished with our "SQ3R" notes for Social Studies, as well as the Math homework as well.  It's a beautiful evening....Im sitting on my back deck, enjoying the diminishing amount of days that I can do so.
Anyway, just a few things on my mind....I certainly hope everyone is enjoying their time in class.  I know we've started slowly, but rest assured, we will be flying soon.  Additionally, I hope everyone is feeling comfortable in class...and if there is anything that is ever bothering you, please let me know ASAP.  I don't want anyone feeling like that, and always do my very best to make sure that there is always respect shown towards everyone.  If you don't feel comfortable talking to me in class, please write me a note, send me an email, have someone else tell me...whatever works for you.  Just, don't wait!

So, to email me....
See that arrow?  Click there, and it will open up your email and my address magically appears there.  Neat, huh?

And, to comment on something I say...
That's right....you can comment on something I say!  Please do...I love hearing from you!

(And yes, you can even post this to your Facebook or Twitter, too!)

So, there we go!  Enjoy the site, as it will be updated often.  See you tomorrow!
