Now, now - you all know how I feel about movies made from books - most of them are pretty lousy, and most of them are pale imitations of the book.....however, that is changing a bit. Movie makers are working more closely with the authors to ensure better movies - and in turn, we have the Harry Potter movies, Holes, Twilight, etc.
Last week I showed you the trailer for the upcoming Percy Jackson movie, The Lightning Thief. Well, what did I find today? That's right - Diary of a Wimpy Kid! The movie comes out in April!
So, sit back and enjoy - and start bugging your parents now to take you to this!
Well, I have to say, the bowling party was a blast - looks like everyone was having fun!
Congratulations to everyone that got to go - and keep on working hard for the next party!
I know that many of you have read the Percy Jackson books (if not, check them out)....well, the first movie is coming out next month! The movie looks good, and very much in the style of the Harry Potter movies. I always say you should read the book first, but it's always nice to see one person's interpretation of the book.
Since we've been studying the planets and the solar system, I found a neat video online that demonstrates and attempts to explain the "birth" of the solar system. Pretty neat - enjoy below!
We've spent a few days talking about the nightmare going on in Haiti right now, and I think that we all got more from the actual videos and pictures - they give the situation the proper perspective.
Well, CNN has something Ive never seen before - a 360 degree video. This car, in the video below, drives the streets of Port-au-Prince, with a special video camera attached. Anytime in the video, you can pause the video, and click and drag anywhere on the screen to "move" the camera - to see everywhere. Very powerful imagery.
(Update - the video wont embed, but you can view it here, on CNN's website...)
As we continue learning about ancient Greece, I have found some links for you to take a look at. Some are pictures, some are webquests, some are just informational. Take a look around, and if you have any of your own, please post a comment and tell me!
BBC Ancient Greece - A GREAT resource. They have information on Athens, Olympia and ancient life. (I spent a LOT of time here...because we all know how I am...)
BBC Olympic Games - Another fantastic product of the BBC. Click “Begin” to start a flash-based adventure through the ancient Olympics Read as you go, and try and make it to the end.
Ancient Greece.org - Pretty self-explanatory…an entire website devoted to ancient Greece. A great look at history, culture, art, etc.
Secrets of the Parthenon - The website that accompanies the great PBS special on one of Greece’s most famous buildings.
